At Guide Dogs for the Blind, we prepare highly qualified guide dogs to serve and empower individuals who are blind or visually impaired throughout the U.S. and Canada. We’re seeking an individual with strong leadership and teaching skills to serve as Training Class Supervisor for the Guide Dog Mobility Instructors (GDMI) at our San Rafael, CA campus. You’ll be responsible for the supervision, management, education and professional development of our GDMIs while ensuring safety and high standards for our programs. You’ll also represent the Training Department in the areas of outreach, public relations and advocacy for people who are blind and visually impaired.
What you’ll do:
- Actively manage the performance of all GDMIs by motivating, guiding, providing feedback and identifying opportunities for growth
- Oversee the matching and training of clients in class and evaluate the progress of teams
- Effectively evaluate dogs and offer training solutions
- Complete employee evaluations and provides ongoing feedback and mentoring to GDMIs
- Collaborate with counterparts across campuses to ensure a consistency and refinement of programs and assist in the implementation of new directions and programs
- Be capable of completing all stages of obedience testing, guide work testing and traffic training
- Conduct assessments of applicants and provide assistance for clients in the field through telephone contact and/or in person
- Represent the Training Department through speaking engagements, graduations, tours and conventions

The qualifications you’ll need:
- 5 years of experience as a Qualified GDMI preferred
- High school diploma required; undergraduate degree preferred
- Motivator and leader with excellent interpersonal, presentation and analytical skills
- Ability to foster job performance and career development using the most effective management style for each employee
- Proven organizational, planning and change management skills
- Ability to handle a variety of large breed dogs, weighing up to 90 pounds

Pay Range:
$98,000-$120,000/year
