Guide Dog Services Operations Manager - Auckland, New Zealand

With over 300 employees and around 6,000 volunteers the Blind Foundation is New Zealand’s leading provider of services and support to people who are blind or have low vision. One of New Zealand’s most trusted and iconic Not for Profit organisations, we need a Guide Dog Services Operations Manager to join us. You will help the organisation achieve our vision of a “life without limits” for New Zealanders who are blind or who have low vision.

 

Blind Foundation guide dogs give people who are blind or have low vision freedom and independence. They help people to get around safely and confidently. The Guide Dog Services Operations Manager is responsible for delivering our guide dog services and operations. This includes delivering a demand driven dog production service and handler matching services to meet the needs of clients seeking a Guide Dog. The position is accountable for planning for strategic outcomes, developing and implementing improvements cross Guide Dog Services to improve client outcomes, building team cohesion and connection to the wider Blind Foundation shared vision. This is a new role where you will have the opportunity to make your mark and shape the future direction of Guide Dog Services.

 

What we are looking for:

  • A certified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor from an IDGF accredited school with a broad understanding of all aspects of Guide Dog Service operations;
  • A tertiary qualification in a related field;
  • A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience;
  • A deep understanding of dog psychology and effective training methodologies
  • A deep understanding of human psychology particularly when people are faced with vision loss
  • Proven leadership skills
  • A strong client and customer focus and a commitment to person centered service
  • Effective public speaker
