Guide Dog Mobility Instructor – two roles

Permanent, Full Time

Two roles – one based in the South Auckland/Waikato region and one based in North Auckland, New Zealand

With over 300 employees and around 6,000 volunteers the Blind Foundation is New Zealand’s leading provider of services and support to people who are blind or have low vision. One of New Zealand’s most trusted and iconic Not for Profit organisations, we are seeking two Guide Dog Mobility Instructors to join us, in two locations. You will help the organisation achieve our vision of a “life without limits” for New Zealanders who are blind or who have low vision.

We currently have an opportunity for two full time Guide Dog Mobility Instructors to work a total of 37.5 hours per week within Guide Dogs Services. 

The positions cover several aspects of Guide Dog Services work including training guide dogs and guide dog teams, supervising guide dog puppies on the Puppy Development Programme, providing after care for Guide Dog Handlers and working with Blind Foundation and community organisations throughout the South Auckland/Waikato and North Auckland regions.

The successful applicant will be located as a region based field operator, working from one of the Foundation Regional offices, once the initial induction phase is complete.

What we are looking for:

  • A Guide Dog Mobility Instructor qualification accredited by the International Guide Dog Federation
  • Minimum of two years experience in the guide dog field
  • Additional qualifications in canine behaviour, animal husbandry, communication and computer skills would be an advantage
  • Ability to report fluently, via written communication
  • An ability to communicate and work with dogs and people
